About Sobertown
Sobertown is a growing community of like-minded people in recovery helping others start or maintain their sobriety.
We refer to ourselves as “Sober Warriors” because the fight against addiction is a grisly battle that takes no prisoners. Real people die every day from complications and repercussions of long-term alcohol use, a tragic end that is 100% preventable through increased awareness and connection.
Alcohol is so pervasive and normalized in our culture that it often gets a free pass into our lives when it’s really a cancer-causing drug that can slowly wreak havoc on all states of our well-being: physical, emotional, social, spiritual, environmental, vocational, and intellectual.
But we’re not here simply to shine a light on alcohol’s ugly side.
We’re forming a village of sober individuals from all walks of life that share a common goal - to support others in recovery while also increasing the dialogue around the many positive aspects of sobriety versus the darkness of addiction.

EP 199: They’re Marketing Us - Boom Rethink the Drink
Tuesday Feb 08, 2022
Tuesday Feb 08, 2022
Wingy from "Boom Rethink the Drink" and Drifter sit down to chat about the marketing of alcohol before Super Bowl Sunday.
Super Bowl Sunday is one of the biggest challenges of the year for people who have recently stopped drinking. Alcohol will likely be a big feature of any Super Bowl party and if your friends don’t know you’ve gone sober you may find yourself in an uncomfortable spot, deciding how much information to give or not about why you’re partying alcohol-free. It’s also a challenge that alcohol is a big feature of the Super Bowl itself in those much-anticipated commercials that may be triggering to the most determined newly sober person. The commercialization of addictive behavior is something that I blog about often. I have written post after post on the toxic mainstream media marketing of wine o’clock and mommy’s wine time. One of the most toxic cultural trends of my adult life has been the sale of this lifestyle as consequence-free. It’s packaged beautifully and artfully sold, everywhere from the grocery store to your television screen to your social media feed to the cinema, the idea that the problem is not the drink but the drinker becomes deeply ingrained in our subconscious.
Join us for a pregame discussion on the marketing of alcohol and ideas on how to enjoy Super Bowl Sunday Alcohol-free - Rethink the Drink.

Peanut and her daughter Bug sit down with Drifter and his granddaughter Bear Cub to talk about addiction.
How much do your kids know about addiction? Peanut and Drifter were not expecting the knowledge and wisdom of these 2 young girls! As an out of touch gramps, I'm kind of stunned how these companies have this access to our kids.

Positive Recovery with Corinna
Protecting your sobriety when others are still drinking This really is a difficult one but we have to remember that this us our journey. Nobody else’s. Expectations of others will lead to disappointment and upset. Find a sober community to support you and accept that others in your life will not fully understand your journey, some won’t even try and others may actually try to sabotage it. Focus on controlling the things you can and not resisting the things you cannot Www.sobertownpodcast.com 🍵🫖☕️💦 Chin Chin💖🙋🏻♀️My communities are: Sobertownpodcast.com

EP 191: Downsizing and living minimally - Positive Recovery with Corinna
Thursday Jan 27, 2022
Thursday Jan 27, 2022
When we get sober we start to question many things. The meaning of our life, where we are and how we got here. Is it free choice. It or it due to convention, society, expectations and conforming? For me, it was all of the above. And I drank to drown my sorrows. Now I’m sober, live unconventionally and am the happiest I’ve ever been. I am now living the life I love. But why? As Glennon Doyle would say “Here I am” Remember, you always have a choice. It is all within your control. It’s inside your hula hoop. Yay! Tuesday Jan 25, 2022
I am Lisa G, a grateful recovering alcoholic I got sober on April 10th 1988. . I was 20 years old and did not know I was walking into an Alcoholic Anonymous meeting, what I found was warmth and kindness, so I stayed. Through the years I have been through death of a man I loved, death of my parents, divorce , being a single mom, ear disease, on my death bed in 2012, and brain surgery in 2017. All of that sober. Today I have 4 wonderful boys, 3 great daughters in laws , 4 wonderful grandbabies and a husband that I always wanted. I am disabled, but I love life and stay active in Alcoholics Anonymous. I am grateful for 33 years sobriety.

EP 183: Megstar’s Recovery Story - Irish Exit
Tuesday Jan 18, 2022
Tuesday Jan 18, 2022
"The Irish exit. The irony of this title is that prior to being sober I was known in my big drinking days for making Irish exits on a regular basis. Mainly because I wanted to keep myself from looking like a fool. This, my most recent “Irish exit” has been FROM drinking and has done anything but left me feeling like a fool. It has enabled me to feel proud strong and capable.Urban Dictionary describes it as “the departure from any event without telling any friends, associates or acquaintances that one is leaving. It is almost always the result of being very inebriated/intoxicated.”
That is an excerpt from the amazing book Megstar is writing about addiction.
