About Sobertown
Sobertown is a growing community of like-minded people in recovery helping others start or maintain their sobriety.
We refer to ourselves as “Sober Warriors” because the fight against addiction is a grisly battle that takes no prisoners. Real people die every day from complications and repercussions of long-term alcohol use, a tragic end that is 100% preventable through increased awareness and connection.
Alcohol is so pervasive and normalized in our culture that it often gets a free pass into our lives when it’s really a cancer-causing drug that can slowly wreak havoc on all states of our well-being: physical, emotional, social, spiritual, environmental, vocational, and intellectual.
But we’re not here simply to shine a light on alcohol’s ugly side.
We’re forming a village of sober individuals from all walks of life that share a common goal - to support others in recovery while also increasing the dialogue around the many positive aspects of sobriety versus the darkness of addiction.

When we get sober we start to question many things. The meaning of our life, where we are and how we got here. Is it free choice. It or it due to convention, society, expectations and conforming? For me, it was all of the above. And I drank to drown my sorrows. Now I’m sober, live unconventionally and am the happiest I’ve ever been. I am now living the life I love. But why? As Glennon Doyle would say “Here I am” Remember, you always have a choice. It is all within your control. It’s inside your hula hoop. Yay! I am Lisa G, a grateful recovering alcoholic I got sober on April 10th 1988. . I was 20 years old and did not know I was walking into an Alcoholic Anonymous meeting, what I found was warmth and kindness, so I stayed. Through the years I have been through death of a man I loved, death of my parents, divorce , being a single mom, ear disease, on my death bed in 2012, and brain surgery in 2017. All of that sober. Today I have 4 wonderful boys, 3 great daughters in laws , 4 wonderful grandbabies and a husband that I always wanted. I am disabled, but I love life and stay active in Alcoholics Anonymous. I am grateful for 33 years sobriety.

EP 183: Megstar’s Recovery Story - Irish Exit
Tuesday Jan 18, 2022
Tuesday Jan 18, 2022
"The Irish exit. The irony of this title is that prior to being sober I was known in my big drinking days for making Irish exits on a regular basis. Mainly because I wanted to keep myself from looking like a fool. This, my most recent “Irish exit” has been FROM drinking and has done anything but left me feeling like a fool. It has enabled me to feel proud strong and capable.Urban Dictionary describes it as “the departure from any event without telling any friends, associates or acquaintances that one is leaving. It is almost always the result of being very inebriated/intoxicated.”
That is an excerpt from the amazing book Megstar is writing about addiction.

EP 178: Unexpected Alchemy: ThisMrs interviews Author Skye Nicholson
Thursday Jan 13, 2022
Thursday Jan 13, 2022
After finding freedom from 25 years of alcohol abuse in 2018, Skye Nicholson began processing her shame and awakening through poetry. In this episode ThisMrs talks to Skye about the journey of recovery and empowerment that led her to become a certified coach with Annie Grace's This Naked Mind Institute and write her first book. In Unexpected Alchemy: Poems of Addiction and Awakening, Skye's vulnerable words take the reader through a path of transformation that is relatable to anyone who has struggled with alcohol or experienced the joy of rediscovering themselves.
"Writing has helped me to process my past, sort through anxiety, and embrace my emerging inner strength. My hope is that my words may settle themselves into someone else’s soul and make them feel less alone. By sharing these poems, I offer permission to my readers to shine light upon their own shadows and evaporate shame." ~Skye Nicholson

Sunday Dec 19, 2021
Positive Recovery with Corinna Suicide Prevention For many of us suicidal thoughts occur at sometime in our lives. Do we really want to be dead or do we just want to escape how we are feeling in that moment. Most suicidal thoughts come from a place of loneliness and hopelessness. This really is a time when we need to play it forwards. When we need to plan ahead and not stay in the moment. It is important to talk and equally important for others to listen. In this podcast I talk about safety plans, reaching out, hope boxes and apps to help you stay alive and support people who are worried or concerned about someone ending their life. If you are actively suicidal and cannot keep yourself safe then please call the emergency services. Apps mentioned in this podcast are:Stay Alive (UK)HopeboxNotOk (for teens)I Am Sober You can also contact the Samaritans on 116 123 in the UK or search for your countries Suicide support line on the internet.
