About Sobertown
Sobertown is a growing community of like-minded people in recovery helping others start or maintain their sobriety.
We refer to ourselves as “Sober Warriors” because the fight against addiction is a grisly battle that takes no prisoners. Real people die every day from complications and repercussions of long-term alcohol use, a tragic end that is 100% preventable through increased awareness and connection.
Alcohol is so pervasive and normalized in our culture that it often gets a free pass into our lives when it’s really a cancer-causing drug that can slowly wreak havoc on all states of our well-being: physical, emotional, social, spiritual, environmental, vocational, and intellectual.
But we’re not here simply to shine a light on alcohol’s ugly side.
We’re forming a village of sober individuals from all walks of life that share a common goal - to support others in recovery while also increasing the dialogue around the many positive aspects of sobriety versus the darkness of addiction.

EP 134: Author of “Everything You Ever Taught Me” sits with Imust
Saturday Oct 16, 2021
Saturday Oct 16, 2021
Imust interviews Person Irresponsible, Author of "Everything You Ever Taught Me": If you've a lot on your mind, go for a walk...
Person Irresponsible: Female. Aged 46. Average height. Large rear. In the midst of a mid-life crisis. It probably began when I was about four. Hoping I'll overcome it one day. Can't afford a Ferrari, and I can't be bothered with an affair. I bought a quad-bike instead but then I sold that when I buggered off to America for six months to live in the wilderness.
Got into the recovery gig aged 41, almost by accident. So I'm now *that* boring divorcee, teetotaller, vegetarian and cat owner that absolutely no one wants to invite to their dinner parties.
Anyway, I wrote a book about walking from Mexico to Canada, whilst trying to stay sane during a pandemic. Please buy it - the cat is also in the throes of a mid-life crisis, as well as an existential one - probably since he was born. Vet bills are costly.
For pictures of my trip go to www.mlconquad.com
Note well - no longer skinny like the bio picture implies.
Thank you.

EP 128: Ashleybear9’s Recovery Story
Sunday Oct 10, 2021
Sunday Oct 10, 2021
King 13 sits down with Ashleybear9.
In this episode they explore how being taught that being sensitive was a form of weakness and that negative emotions were seen as a choice. They discuss how Ashley’s desire to succeed, help others and outwardly present that she had everything together was a tireless and exhausting journey where her only escape was found in drinking. It became her only tool to cope while maintaining a positive “brand” until eventually it was not enough. King 13 and Ashley dive into the symbolism of birds, building back better, the value of presence and closing mental “bulkheads”, and how joy and deeper human experiences can be found in sharing and being vulnerable.
Various events eventually acted like a giant highlighter, not creating a problem with alcohol but rather highlighting a dangerous relationship that already existed. Ashley’s ability to be intuitive, her drive to be better, cope healthily and manage some very difficult life events led her on the eventual path of sobriety. Truly a better path, a path of growth and love. Love for herself, for others and for life.
Thank You Ashleybear9 for joining Sobertown and sharing your amazing Journey!! We appreciate your time here and all you do in the IAS community! You are a dedicated and selfless Sober Warrior!!

EP 116: Dopamine Nation - Author Dr Anna Lembke
Friday Oct 01, 2021
Friday Oct 01, 2021
King13 Interviews Dr Anna Lembke and her book "Dopamine Nation"
Anna Lembke is an American psychiatrist who is Chief of the Stanford Addiction Medicine Dual Diagnosis Clinic at Stanford University. She is a specialist in the opioid epidemic in the United States, and the author of Drug Dealer, MD, How Doctors Were Duped, Patients Got Hooked, and Why It’s So Hard to Stop. Her new book, a New York Times bestseller, Dopamine Nation: Finding Balance in the Age of Indulgence, was released in August 2021.
Lembke appeared in the 2020 Netflix documentary The Social Dilemma.
This book is about pleasure. It’s also about pain. Most important, it’s about how to find the delicate balance between the two, and why now more than ever finding balance is essential. We’re living in a time of unprecedented access to high-reward, high-dopamine stimuli: drugs, food, news, gambling, shopping, gaming, texting, sexting, Facebooking, Instagramming, YouTubing, tweeting… The increased numbers, variety, and potency is staggering. The smartphone is the modern-day hypodermic needle, delivering digital dopamine 24/7 for a wired generation. As such we’ve all become vulnerable to compulsive overconsumption. In Dopamine Nation, Dr. Anna Lembke, psychiatrist and author, explores the exciting new scientific discoveries that explain why the relentless pursuit of pleasure leads to pain…and what to do about it. Condensing complex neuroscience into easy-to-understand metaphors, Lembke illustrates how finding contentment and connectedness means keeping dopamine in check. The lived experiences of her patients are the gripping fabric of her narrative. Their riveting stories of suffering and redemption give us all hope for managing our consumption and transforming our lives. In essence, Dopamine Nation shows that the secret to finding balance is combining the science of desire with the wisdom of recovery.Dopamine Nation: Finding Balance in the Age of Indulgence

Cognitive Dissonance: The state of having inconsistent thoughts, beliefs, or attitudes, especially as relating to behavioral decisions and attitude change.
Neural Pathways: In brief, a neural pathway is a series of connected neurons that send signals from one part of the brain to another. ... These connected neurons process the information we receive.
